SHARING TO STORIES

How KKBOX is increasing engagement with Sharing to Stories

Start Building

BRAND

Founded in 2005 in Taiwan by a group of programmers, music streaming service KKBOX offers more than 10 million people throughout Asia access to over 90 million songs. Technology is at the heart of the brand, and the KKBOX team is always looking for innovative ways to engage listeners and provide useful features that enhance their social experience on the platform.

The KKBOX team integrated Sharing to Stories, a feature that helps users share content from an app directly to their Facebook Story or Instagram Story.

Discovering Sharing to Stories

KKBOX knew its listeners enjoyed sharing content to platforms such as Facebook and Instagram and was looking to provide an easy way for them to share their favorite songs, lyrics, and albums without leaving the app.

“We wanted to deepen our connection with users and give them a way to share seamlessly,” said Bob Chao, a product manager for KKBOX. “We also hoped that seeing friends and family share content from KKBOX would help us attract more users.”

When the KKBOX team learned about Sharing to Stories, it seemed like an ideal solution, and they set out to integrate it quickly.

KKBOX’s Integration Process

To add the Sharing to Stories functionality to its app, KKBOX assigned just one developer to perform the integration following the Meta for Developers documentation.

“It was a quick and straight-forward process,” Bob said, adding that even testing was quite simple.

Once the integration was complete, the Sharing to Stories feature provided KKBOX listeners with the ability to share album cover art.

Launching Sharing to Stories

Once Sharing to Stories was fully integrated, KKBOX produced educational marketing content that helped listeners understand how to share. “We created a video that showed how to use Sharing to Stories in the app and posted it across our owned social media channels,” Bob said. In addition, the team included the video in newsletters sent to listeners.

  • 60% of KKBOX users share content to Facebook Stories and Instagram Stories
  • Approximately 130,000 posts are made monthly to Facebook and Instagram via Sharing to Stories
  • Approximately 20,000 clicks per months come from Facebook Stories and Instagram Stories
*ALL RESULTS ARE SELF-REPORTED AND NOT IDENTICALLY REPEATABLE. GENERALLY EXPECTED INDIVIDUAL RESULTS WILL DIFFER.

Next Steps

With Sharing to Stories available and a popular option for more than half of KKBOX’s listeners, the streaming service is excited to see how the new feature attracts new users as well as its impact on user retention.

“We believe Sharing to Stories helps our users express themselves,” Bob said. “We definitely love to see our users satisfied and we’re looking very forward to whatever updates Facebook for Developers has in the product roadmap for Sharing to Stories!”
