With more than 230,000 recipes, and over 5 million monthly unique active users, iCook is the one of largest and most popular social platforms for recipe sharing in Hong Kong and Taiwan, where one out of every three women uses iCook, as per the site (source). Beyond recipes, iCook also provides content about food, cooking, and general health knowledge in several formats, including blog posts, videos, and other rich-format experiences.

THEIR GOAL

Reaching home cooks with Instagram Stories

iCook wanted to give people an easy way to share the recipes they use to cook the food that they love and wanted to reach a wider audience. The recipe site knew Instagram was popular amongst its users and aimed to find a solution for sharing recipes to Instagram Stories.

OUR SOLUTION

Designing a simple and effective sharing experience

iCook’s in-house developer team integrated the Sharing to Stories platform after building a simple proof-of-concept, defined key metrics and proposed user flows for iOS. Because they wanted users to understand the “share” button immediately, the team built an entirely new user interface flow so that previews of the images once shared would pop-up when a person hovered over the button. To complete the integration with Sharing to Stories, the iCook team referenced the developer documentation on the Facebook for Developers website, which helped them implement the platform’s API quickly and easily.

OUR SUCCESS

Higher sharing rates and user retention

The iCook team built a new user interface flow, integrated Sharing to Stories, and launched the new sharing tool within one month, allowing the site’s users to share their recipes quickly and easily.

  • 1.2x higher sharing rates for sharing to Instagram Stories compared to the average of all other sharing methods
  • 30% higher retention rates for users who shared via Instagram Stories than for people who did not share
