What the FTC Agreement Means for Developers

July 26, 2019ByKonstantinos Papamiltiadis

Earlier this week, we announced our settlement with the FTC and a new framework for protecting people’s privacy and the information they choose to share. We are building an enhanced privacy program that will introduce changes not only to how Facebook handles data, but also how we hold partners accountable for managing data.

In practice, this means more stringent processes to identify privacy risks, more documentation of those risks, and more sweeping measures to ensure that we meet these new requirements. Some of these changes will impact you. As an example, developers, who have always been subject to our Platform Policy, will be required to self-certify compliance with these and any other applicable Facebook terms.

When we have more details to share, we will use this forum and our developer alerts system to reach out to you. We are committed to providing you with updates as soon as we have them. To ensure you receive the most up to date notifications, please update Developer Settings in your Developer Dashboard, or Business Manager to include relevant contact details. It is critical that we can reach you at an email address that you check regularly, as many of our updates are time sensitive.

We will continue rolling out more changes to processes and programs for third party developers. As we develop our plans, we’ll always keep in mind the feedback we’ve received from this community.

Thank you for your continued patience and partnership as we work to define what’s ahead.
