Embedded Signup default flow

Updated: Sep 3, 2026
Copy for LLM
Embedded Signup v2 and v3 will be deprecated on October 15, 2026, including their public preview versions. Migrate your integration to v4 before that date to avoid disruption. See Versions for the full upgrade path.
This document describes the default screens that the Embedded Signup Cloud API flow presents to your business customers as they navigate the flow. If you inject pre-filled data, you can pre-fill some of these screens. You can also bypass many of them entirely. Pre-filling data reduces the likelihood of errors and streamlines onboarding for your business customers. This document describes the UI flow for the latest version, v4.
v4 is moving to the Phone Number First flow. Business customers enter and verify their business phone number at the start of the flow, before they create or select business assets. This surfaces phone number eligibility and verification issues earlier.
The rollout is in progress. Some business customers still see the previous screen order, where asset selection comes before phone number entry.
Collecting the phone number first also changes how Coexistence starts. If you have enabled Coexistence and the business customer enters a phone number that is already in use with the WhatsApp Business app, Embedded Signup enters the Coexistence flow automatically. The business customer no longer selects the WhatsApp Business app option to get there.

Screens

Authorization screen

This screen describes the data the business customer permits your app to access.

Phone number addition screen

This screen allows the business customer to enter a new business phone number, or select an existing phone number from the dropdown, to associate with their WhatsApp account.
The phone number is the first piece of information Embedded Signup collects, before any asset selection.

Phone number verification screen

This screen allows the business customer to verify ownership of the business phone number they entered on the phone number addition screen. The business customer chooses whether to receive the verification code by text message or phone call, then submits the code to complete verification.
If you are providing phone numbers to your business customers, you must deliver these codes to them, or provide pre-verified numbers instead.

Business asset selection screen

This screen gives business customers the option to select existing business assets, such as a Meta business portfolio and WhatsApp account (WAAC), to use with the verified phone number.
Business customers also have the option to create new assets if they have not reached their portfolio limit.

Success screen

This screen indicates that Meta successfully created and associated all of the business customer’s assets (business portfolio, WhatsApp account (WAAC), Messaging account, phone number display profile, and business phone number).
When the business customer clicks Finish, Embedded Signup triggers a message event containing the business customer’s waba_id and business phone number ID, which you must then use to onboard the business customer to the platform.

Coexistence flow

Coexistence lets the business keep using the WhatsApp Business app on their phone while also enabling Cloud API access on the same number.
Embedded Signup presents this flow when you have enabled Coexistence and the business customer enters a phone number that is already in use with the WhatsApp Business app. Because v4 collects the phone number first, Embedded Signup can detect that number and enter the flow automatically, without the business customer selecting the WhatsApp Business app option.
The authentication, authorization, and phone number addition screens are the same as the default flow. The flow diverges once the business customer submits a WhatsApp Business app phone number. For the API integration steps that follow, see Onboard WhatsApp Business app users.

Business profile screen

This screen displays the WhatsApp Business app account details associated with the phone number the business customer entered: the profile picture, name, phone number, category, and website the business has set in the WhatsApp Business app. The business customer reviews these details and confirms this is the account they want to onboard.

Business portfolio selection screen

This screen allows the business customer to select an existing Meta business portfolio to associate with the Coexistence onboarding, or create a new one.

Business creation screen

This screen allows the business customer to create a new business portfolio by entering business information: name, email address, country, and website.

QR code verification screen

This screen displays a QR code that the business customer scans from inside the WhatsApp Business app on their phone. Meta also delivers a WhatsApp message containing a link to the QR code to the same number. Once the business customer scans the QR code, the flow advances automatically.

Business information confirmation screen

This screen allows the business customer to confirm their WhatsApp account name (read-only) and select a time zone (required) for the account.
