When a Page sends too many messages in a short time period, or is constantly sending or receiving messages with a large number of threads concurrently, the system converts it to a high-MPS (messages per second) Page. When this happens, the Page will lose access to its Page Inbox tool and is expected to handle its messages exclusively through the platform APIs.
Note that the conversion to high-MPS status is automatic and there is no way to opt in to or opt out from becoming one. The high-MPS status of a Page cannot be reverted even if the message volume drops thereafter.
Due to high-volume of messages, the Page will lose access to the Page Inbox tool and is expected to handle its messages exclusively through the platform APIs.
The Send API allows apps to safely send messages up to 250 MPS. For more details, see Send API limits.
The current threshold for high-MPS Page conversion is about 40 MPS. This number is subject to change.
When a Page is converted to high-MPS status, the Page’s Inbox will be disabled. The page admin can choose to keep access to Inbox. This action will result in all messages sent while your Page Inbox is disabled to be permanently deleted and you will be subject to a lower-rate limit. You may be able to access deleted messages if you’re using a third-party app that supports Inbox.
This option can be found in the Messenger Platform tab under Page Settings only after the Page has been transitioned into high-MPS mode.
