Pages with High-Volume Messages

When a Page sends too many messages in a short time period, or is constantly sending or receiving messages with a large number of threads concurrently, the system converts it to a high-MPS (messages per second) Page. When this happens, the Page will lose access to its Page Inbox tool and is expected to handle its messages exclusively through the platform APIs.

Note that the conversion to high-MPS status is automatic and there is no way to opt in to or opt out from becoming one. The high-MPS status of a Page cannot be reverted even if the message volume drops thereafter.

Due to high-volume of messages, the Page will lose access to the Page Inbox tool and is expected to handle its messages exclusively through the platform APIs.

The Send API allows apps to safely send messages up to 250 MPS. For more details, see Send API limits.

The current threshold for high-MPS Page conversion is about 40 MPS. This number is subject to change.

To avoid inadvertently being converted to a high-MPS Page

  • Do not send a large volume of messages at the same time.
  • Consistently spread out message calls that aren't time-sensitive.

Retain access to Page Inbox tool for high-MPS Page

When a Page is converted to high-MPS status, the Page Inbox tool will be disabled. The Page admin can choose to keep using it by activating the Retain Access to Page Inbox Page setting. This action will result in a send rate limit, set by the Page Inbox Tool.

This option can be found in the Messenger Platform tab under Page Settings only after the Page has been transitioned into high-MPS mode.
