Free Basics Submission Feedback

Understand your submission response and fix common issues.

Mobile Friendly

This submission feedback suggests your service is not mobile friendly. To ensure that Free Basics is accessible to all, we focus on supporting lightweight mobile websites.

To fix this issue:

  • Build your service to provide a stable mobile web experience
  • Make sure your service complies with the technical specifications outlined in our Technical Guidelines
  • Before you resubmit, test your service's mobile compatibility in the Free Basics Simulator

Website Redirection

This submission feedback suggests your service's primary content is redirecting to a URL other than the one you provided as your primary submission URL. URLs not listed on the Free Basics proxy will not function and will create a broken experience when people try to access your service.

To fix this issue:

  • Ensure the URL provided is correct and is the primary domain for your service
  • Don't redirect people to another site when they load your service

This submission feedback indicates that your site has broken or non-optimal scrolling or site navigation.

To fix this issue:

  • Make sure there's no horizontal scrolling on your site
  • Test your service to make sure it's easily navigable. All scrolling and navigation should be mobile friendly and optimized for feature phones
  • Before resubmitting, test your service's mobile compatibility on the Free Basics Simulator

This submission feedback indicates that your service's primary functionality relies on Javascript.

To fix your service:

  • Build your service to function with JavaScript disabled
  • Include a graceful fallback option if any components of your service use JavaScript. In order to offer an experience that can work across devices, your service should remain functional and useful when JavaScript is disabled
  • Before resubmitting, test your service on the Free Basics Simulator

These submission responses suggest that primary or secondary links in your service are broken, or aren't optimized for mobile.

To fix these issues:

  • Build your service, including all content links, without JavaScript dependency. In order to offer an experience that can work across devices, your service should remain functional and useful when JavaScript is disabled
  • Include any additional domains or subdomains required for your service to work correctly in your submission
  • Make sure all footer links load in a mobile friendly environment. For example, make sure any Terms & Conditions links offered on your service load in a mobile-optimized environment

Excessive Bandwidth

This submission feedback indicates your service uses excessive bandwidth.

To fix this issue:

  • Remove any data-intensive content components from your service, such as VoIP, video, file transfers, high resolution photos or high volumes of photos
  • Test your service's bandwidth use to make sure it uses data efficiently
