Adobe Flash is a popular technology choice for game developers over the past years. While Flash is supported by browsers via a built-in or downloadable plug-in, we have seen a few announcements over the past year:
- Google Chrome - Roll-out plan for HTML5 by Default
- Mozilla Firefox - Reducing Adobe Flash Usage in Firefox
- Microsoft Edge - Extending User Control of Flash with Click-to-Run
- Apple Safari - Next Steps for Legacy Plug-ins
Browsers have different roll-out timelines for requiring, and remembering player consent to run Flash content. This applies to all websites as well as Facebook Web Games. We recommend you to be familiar with the above announcements to ensure that your game runs smoothly on Facebook Web.
As click-to-play introduces friction to players, we suggest developers to look at HTML5 Web technology, which do not require any additional plug-ins to run in the browser.
On another note, Facebook Gameroom has built-in support for Web Games built in Flash, working independently from the browser announcements listed above. Players will be able to continue playing their games in Facebook Gameroom.
