Use the a face paint material to create a mask effect that shows the skin and features of the person using the effect, behind either a custom texture or a color.
For example, you can use this material to create a tattoo or makeup effect.
We've used the face paint material to make a simple mask in this video tutorial.
To create a face paint material:
First create a face mesh:
You'll see a face shape in the Viewport:
With the face mesh selected in the Scene tab, go over to the Inspector panel:
You can then either add a texture or a color to the material by selecting an option from the dropdown next to Type:
If you've selected Texture, choose the texture file you want to add from the menu, or import a new one. Once you've added the texture, you should see it on the face in the Viewport and Simulator:
If you've selected Color, simply add a color from the palette:
Back - Discard pieces of the mesh that are facing away from the viewer. Most effects use this mode to improve performance.
Front - Discard pieces of the mesh that are facing the viewer.
Set the transparency of the material on an individual map level.
Multiplies a color or texture against a grey-scale version of the video feed.
Sets the brightness of a color.
Displays both sides of a face normal.
Check which object this material is applied to.
