Embedded signup v4: Upgrade to Meta’s streamlined, unified onboarding experience before the deadline on October 15, 2026

By Keilani Collins

TL;DR: If you're a developer using embedded signup v2 or v3 to onboard businesses onto Meta's Business Messaging APIs, it's time to upgrade. Embedded signup v2 and v3 will be deprecated on October 15th, and embedded signup v4 delivers a streamlined, unified onboarding experience. Migrating from v2 or v3 is simpler than you might think.

For more information, see our developer documentation and tutorial video.

What's new in embedded signup v4

Embedded signup is the customer onboarding solution that makes it easy for your business customers to generate the assets they need to get started with Meta Business Messaging APIs. With v4, we've made significant improvements across the board:

Multi-API onboarding in a single flow

Your business customers can now onboard onto multiple Meta Business Messaging APIs through one streamlined flow, which enables them to get up and running with WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger Business Messaging technologies in just a few quick steps. You have full flexibility to select which APIs to make available to your customers. Single-API onboarding remains fully supported; include as many or as few APIs as you need. Please review our developer documentation for the full list of supported APIs and features.

A simpler user experience

We've reduced the number of steps and screens in the onboarding flow, so your business customers can complete signup faster and with less friction.

A unified and simple onboarding configuration setup process

The new Facebook Login for Business configuration setup process gives you a single place to easily set up, manage, and evolve your embedded signup integration. You can easily tailor the onboarding flow with whichever APIs you choose to support, and add new Business Messaging APIs over time as your needs grow.

Why you should upgrade now

  • Future-proof your integration: Embedded signup v2 and v3 will be deprecated on October 15, 2026. Migrating now gives you plenty of time to test, iterate, and refine.

  • Minimal developer effort: We estimate up to 1 week of developer effort to complete the upgrade, including testing. Much of the configuration work has been shifted to the Facebook Login for Business configuration setup process, so there is very little coding required.

  • Deprecated feature types: While we recommend that all developers proactively upgrade to embedded signup v4 before the October 15, 2026 deprecation deadline, most integrations that are still on v2 or v3 after the deprecation deadline will be automatically upgraded to v4. However, integrations using the below feature types with v2 cannot be automatically upgraded and require developer updates to complete the upgrade process before October 15th:

    • only_waba_sharing
    • marketing_messages_lite
    • coex

After October 15th, the deprecated feature types will no longer function; they will default to the standard embedded signup flow.

How to upgrade: step-by-step guide

More info in developer documentation.

Step 1: Create a new Facebook Login for Business configuration

  1. Go to your app on developers.facebook.com.

  2. In the left sidebar, select Configurations under Facebook Login for Business.

  3. Click Create Configuration.

  4. Name your configuration.

  5. Select the WhatsApp Embedded Signup login variation.

Step 2: Select your Business Messaging APIs

Select which APIs you want to include in your onboarding flow. You can review our developer documentation for the full list of supported APIs and features. Include as many or as few as you'd like; single API onboarding is fully supported.

Step 3: Test with the Embedded Signup Builder

  1. Navigate to Embedded Signup Builder.

  2. Select your new configuration.

  3. Open the flow. You don't need to select a version, since the configuration now drives that logic.

  4. Click Login with Facebook to preview the v4 experience.

The time it takes to upgrade will vary depending on which version of embedded signup you're currently using. In many cases, the upgrade can be completed in just a few minutes of configuration, plus testing time. We estimate that the full upgrade process including testing and implementation could take anywhere up to 1 week.
