Fab.com Showcase

Fab.com is an e-commerce web site and mobile app that specializes in design-centric products.

Overview

In August 2011, Fab.com integrated the Like and Share Links social plugins on their product and live feed pages to encourage people to discuss products with friends. In January 2012, Fab.com launched their Open Graph implementation to make it easier for people to share their purchases and favorite products on their timelines.

Implementation

Fab.com offers a limited time, promotional monthly credit to encourage people to opt into the social shopping experience. Fab.com also displays a facepile of friends during authentication to make the experience more relevant to each person, which increases conversion.

Fab.com prompts people to use the most popular feature - Add to favorites - on their product pages to increase sharing and generate stories that appear in news feed and timeline on Facebook.

They implemented the following Open Graph actions and objects:

  • Bought a Product - "Chris Maliwat bought a product"
  • Faved a Product - "Bryant Lee faved a product"

Results

  • Since launching with Open Graph in January, referral traffic from Facebook has doubled and membership has grown from 1.8 million to more than 3.2 million users.
