You can share your Facebook information with outside applications and websites to make your experiences on those applications and websites better and more social. The technical platform we use to enable that interaction is called Facebook Platform. With Platform, you can share your information and your friends' information to add a social layer to your experience on those outside applications and websites, and with your authorization those applications and websites can post stories about actions you take to your Facebook newsfeed.
We do not own or run the applications and websites that you interact with through Facebook Platform, and while we try to enforce standards to protect your information, we cannot guarantee that they will follow our rules. You are responsible for evaluating whether you want to use an application or website and whether you want to share information with it. You should review the terms of use and privacy policy of an application or website before using it because you may give the operator permission to use information you share with them in ways we would not.
If you allow an application or website to connect with your Facebook account, that application or website can access information on Facebook related to you and your friends and generate and publish stories about actions you take on that application or website without any additional permission. Unless you change your privacy settings, an application or website that you connect with can generally access the same information that you can see about yourself and your friends, and an application or website that your friend connects with can access the same information about you that the friend can see. If you want to change the information that these third parties can access about you when you or a friend uses Facebook Platform, you should modify your privacy settings. If you want to change the stories they can publish on your Facebook profile, you should modify your application settings.
Examples of the types of information that applications and websites may have access to include the following information, to the extent visible on Facebook: your name, your profile picture, your gender, your birthday, your hometown location (city/state/country), your current location (city/state/country), your political view, your activities, your interests, your musical preferences, television shows in which you are interested, movies in which you are interested, books in which you are interested, your favorite quotes, your relationship status, your dating interests, your relationship interests, your network affiliations, your education history, your work history, your course information, copies of photos in your photo albums, metadata associated with your photo albums (e.g., time of upload, album name, comments on your photos, etc.), the total number of messages sent and/or received by you, the total number of unread messages in your in-box, the total number of "pokes" you have sent and/or received, the total number of wall posts on your Wall, a list of user IDs mapped to your friends, your social timeline, notifications that you have received from other applications, and events associated with your profile.
You can report any suspected misuse of the Facebook Platform to us, and we will investigate the claim and take appropriate action.
